The colonias were groups of wooden huts inhabited by vacationers escaping the scorching city in search of sea breeze and beach life during summer.<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

These huts were originally assembled in spring by the tenants themselves and dismantled with the arrival of autumn rains.<\/p>

At the colonia on Patacona Beach (a continuation of Valencia\u2019s Malvarrosa Beach), the plots were marked with stakes surrounding each hut and its small garden. They were painted in bright colours, with gable roofs made of corrugated sheeting, and a front porch facing the sea.
Children enjoyed dream-like summers there, full of sand and sea. Several generations of families remember those beach colonias as paradise.
All the colonias disappeared with the turn of the century and the area\u2019s urban development.
